Grassroot Attempts At Integration in NYC

The New York City school district is the most segregated large school district in the US. Some educators and parents are trying to create integration by requiring a subset of seats in some exclusive schools to be set aside for low-performing students. District 3, covering Harlem and the Upper West Side, has planned its own desegregation plan without a coordinated policy from the city’s education department. The plan has been contested.
